The Second Semester of Academic Year 2012-2013 is a remarkable year for San Beda Alabang School of Law because our dear college responded to the call for environmental awareness and consciousness in the legal profession and academic field by offering the course Natural Resources and Environmental Law for sophomore students.

This course is being handled by two of our highly esteemed faculty members:
Ambassador Amado Tolentino known to be the Father of Environmental Law of the Philippines; and
Atty. Antonio Oposa Jr. known for his doctrine of  inter-generational responsibility for children and future generation.

The student body responded to this call with much  passion and zeal, more than just substantial compliance to the course requirements because the pioneering classes paved the way for the creation of the newest organization here at SBCA-SOL, The Environmental Law Society.

Allow me to share with you our so called Green Report Card for the past academic year:
1. San Beda "Organic Vegetable Garden."
2. Interview with Former Senator Nene Pimentel regarding the Role of Local Government Units in the implementation of laws related to the protection and conservation of our environment.
3. National Youth Commission Visitation
4. Clean Air Philippines Visitation
5. Bantayan, Cebu Noise Pollution Case
6. Environmental Action Forum: Be Informed, Be Ignited, Be Involved.
7. Organization Launching
8. Oath-taking of Officers
9. Tie-up with LEON San Beda College of Law, Manila

In the coming days, months, or even years, we hope to organize more environmental related activities in our college so that our student body will not only be just Red Lions but Green Lions as well who are advocates for protection of the air, water, animals, plants and other natural resources from pollution or its effects.

“Ang Istruktura ng Edukayson para sa mga Kababaihan noong Panahon ng Amerikano 1925– 1945: Pagtuon sa Mga Naging Simulain ng Maryknoll Sisters sa Pilipinas”

Panimula             Itinatatag noong 1912 ang Kongregasyon ng mga madreng Maryknoll sa Estados Unidos. Nanguna sila sa pagpapadala ng mga misyonaryo partikular sa mga bansa sa Asya. Si Sister Mary Josephine Rogers ( Mother Mary Joseph ) ang kanilang kinikilalang tagapagtatag sa tulong nina Bishop James A. Walsh at Father Thomas Frederick Price. Nauna nang naitatatag ng dalawang paring nabanggit ang grupo ng mga Amerikanong seminarista na nilayong magpadala ng misyon sa iba’t-ibang bansa. Tinawag silang The Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America . Sa paglipas ng mga taon mas kikilalanin ang mga miyembro ng misyong ito bilang mga Maryknoll brothers at sisters.             Tatalakayin sa papel na ito ang mga naging simulain ng kongregasyon ng mga madreng Maryknoll sa bansa. History, How shall I Teach Thee?

That was the question I had to answer when I realized that I wanted to become an educator few months before I graduated from UP. At first, I wanted to become a lecturer in College but because I do not have a Master's Degree yet nor was I a Cum Laude it was not easy for a fresh graduate to be hired, so as soon as my baby-thesis was graded (meaning I will finally march on the stage to get my diploma) I enrolled in the Masters Program of History right before our graduation. I though this might give me a cutting edge. Some of my friends asked, What's the rush? Well for me I know wanted to finish as soon as possible, I wanted to become a professor someday. Now, where did teaching history come into the picture? Simultaneously I also applied for teaching positions in several preparatory schools for college. The application was very exciting for someone who was about to graduate the pursuit of a real job in the real world outside the comfort zone of our University. Then the good news...
